Cyclone Freddy brings devastation to Vilanculos- February-March 2023

On 24 February Cyclone Freddy made landfall in Vilanculos and its surrounding villages bringing torrential rain and flooding and strong gales leaving devastation of houses, crops, markets, roads in its wake. Vulnerable houses made of local materials could not withstand its power and many suffered loss of roofing or were completely destroyed. Many areas of the town were under water and houses flooded. Even the newly built football stadium saw its wall washed away. At our Charis centre the kitchen roof was completely destroyed and other roofs damaged.

Charis is helping with rebuilding of houses and to date know of 15 in the villages whose houses were lost. We have raised part of the funding but are praying God will provide more so that we can help all those we know and more.
