Charis Prayer Update - July 2024

'And pray in the Spirit on all occasions with all kinds of prayers and requests. With this in mind be alert and always keep on praying for all the Lords people.' (Ephesians 6:18)

hree peaks Challenge - last week a few of us spent Saturday climbing the peaks of Yorkshire to raise funds for houses  - praise God we raised enough for 5 houses! It was a good day and we especially thank God for the Lincoln group, led by Raymond, who bravely conquered the challenge at night, when unfortunately the rain made it somewhat more challenging! Thank you for all who took part and contributed in any way.

Mel and Mandy Mozambique Trip July 8 - August 6

Please pray for:

  • Safe travels - 'The Lord will keep you from all harm- He will watch over your life, The Lord will watch over your coming and going both now and forevermore. (Psalm 121:7-8).

  • Team fellowship- Holy Spirit led prayer, worship, bible encouragement -  love, unity, vision, direction and breakthroughs!

  • Fruitful labour - 'You did not choose me but I chose you and appointed you to go and bear fruit-fruit that will last and so that whatever you ask in my name the Father will give you in my name.'

  • National Association (Associacao de Caridade de Mocambique - ACM)  registration to be completed!  We have encountered some delays recently, but are trusting God that he will break open the way for us so that this ministry of compassion can continue to operate freely in Mozambique. One word from you Lord!

  • Bandua visit - Bandua Water Pump Project - another drought in Bandua this year and many failed crops revealed yet again the vulnerability of the people, who survive by subsisting on what they can grow. During the team's last visit they met a young man who was successfully reaping a good harvest from his crops grown near the river, because he had a water pump. For most people acquisition of a water pump is impossible, because of the cost, but it would be transformational. Charis would love to support the rolling out of water pumps to small cooperatives of subsistence farmers. Mel and Mandy will visit with the team and look at how they can set up this project. 'Each one will be like a shelter from the wind and a refuge from the storm, like streams in the desert and the shadow of a great rock in a thirsty land.' (Isaiah 32:2)

Mel and Mandy's family - Good health and peace in their families whilst they are away.

Ethiopia
In May Mel and Mandy visited Elizabeth in Addis Ababa and had a wonderful time of fellowship together. They were unable to visit Nekemte, because of the continuing dangerous situation which needs much prayer.

Please pray for:

  • Nekemte - for the ongoing conflicts -peace and reconciliation between the government and ethnic reactionary groups.

  • The 10 dear ones who are 'graduating' to self-sustaining micro-businesses this month and the 15 who remain dependent on monthly food and holistic care due to age, frailty and sickness. 'The Lord upholds the cause of the oppressed...and watches over the way of the righteous.' (Psalm 146:7,8).

  • Pray for someone else with a good heart in Nekemte, who is willing to help Elizabeth.

  • ADDIS - 'Behold I am doing a new thing!' Elizabeth has made the difficult decision to move to the suburbs of Addis because of the continuing danger in Nekemte. She will continue to make 2 x visits per month to care for those on her care list. She will live with her daughter - please pray God to lead them to the right apartment.

  • Mel and Mandy witnessed the sad situation on the streets of the capital. Many displaced young women and children, who have fled the danger of surrounding provinces, are now living and begging on the busy streets of Addis. Ironically they continue to live in danger from evil people, lack of food, and sickness.

  • Charis is praying that God will open a way for Elizabeth to continue her holistic ministry in Addis and reach out to those suffering on the streets - 'The Lord will make the valley of Achor (trouble) a door of hope'. When we prayed together we cried out to God about the terrible injustice we were witnessing everywhere - that He would open doors of hope: where the homeless can find sustenance, medical help, clothes, shelter, and children can be sponsored to go to school. This is a big vision, but our God can do immeasurably more than we can ask or imagine and He is a God of justice and mercy, who cares passionately for the 'least'. Please pray in faith with us.

Thank you! We want to thank you, all our faithful supporters, who make this ministry of compassion possible.
God bless you - Mel, Mandy and Charis teams xxx
